The first frames are the Danube. It runs broad and green below a rocky crag, and a wooden
boat passes a church among the trees. On deck, bottles of white wine wait on ice.
Dürnstein comes next. You see its blue baroque tower from the river in summer, in late
autumn and at dusk. From the castle ruin above the town, the valley opens out below you, and a
window in the ruin frames the river. The lanes below are cobbled, with a gate tower and a
café sign.
Then the vineyards: pruned vines in spring under a wooded hill, and terraces turned yellow
and red in autumn. A white castle stands on a rock above the water. The last frames are Melk
Abbey, lit gold in the evening, seen from the air in winter, rising over the town, and the long
front across its forecourt.
